Dave's Chimney Service
Home Inspections
When you get an annual chimney sweep or gas log service, the NFPA 211 also requires you have a Level 1 Inspection, all performed by a CSIA Certified Chimney Technician. In several cases, you may require an inspection with greater detail or of a higher level. For instance, the NFPA 211 requires all homes being sold that have a fireplace that burns ANY TYPE of solid fuel, must have a level 2 Inspection by a CSIA Certified Chimney Technician. This includes gas logs, vented or non vented. There are many applications that a Level 1 Inspection will be enough, however, those small details can be costly when purchasing your new home, or starting that fire in the center of your biggest investment you ever will make! This inspection can change a Real Estate contract or offer the probability of a revision. If the home's fireplace is not usable, that cannot be considered a factor in the property at the least.
Following a major storm or chimney fire, we recommend you call us as soon as your insurance has released you to do so. To be honest, after a major event, an adjuster quickly tells you what they will or will not cover, and goes to the next homeowner. They want you to close your claim as quickly as possible, but it is in your right, and their responsibility to make you "Whole" again. We are the ones locally that will do the proper inspection, report the proper code information, and give an accurate and fair estimate that include the current fire safety and building codes, to that establishment that gets you back to normalcy.
If you wait until the end of a claim, it is never acceptable to have the insurance rush you to "cap off" the chimney and close out your claim. Nor should you put any form of combustible in the fireplace prior to getting a proper inspection performed. There are many cases that the fireplaces are designed as one brand. In order to repair, that same product must be used. If that product is no longer produced, there will be a more invasive repair or replacement involved that will never be equivalent to a cap on a fireplace.
We offer regular Level 1 Inspections in most normal situations for all types of businesses and multifamily units. We also now offer Drone assisted rooftop inspections that can be added to a Level 1 or Level 2 Inspection if needed. In some cases, multi family units can negotiate a Spring discount for annual services during slower seasons, but never in the Fall or Winter.
